Basic Principle of Fall Detection

Modified on Tue, 13 Dec, 2022 at 4:08 PM

When a Vayyar fall sensor is correct placed and configured in a room, the unit uses 4D radar imaging to scan the room on a regular basis to determine if a person has fallen. There are no cameras or microphones located in the device.

When a person falls, the device completes a 5 step "fall event" cycle. These steps are:

1. Fall Detected
Within a few seconds of a fall taking place, a white LED on the Vayyar device will begin to flash, indicating that a fall event has been detected. This initiates the first fall event step called "Fall Detected". This lasts for around 50 seconds. If the person stands up within this 50s window, then no alert will be raised by AVERio.

2. Fall Confirmed
If the person remains on the floor, the fall event proceeds to step 2 - "Fall Confirmed". It is at this stage that the AVERio application will raise an alert. This step lasts for around 40 seconds

3. Calling
This is an additional step which lasts for around 30s. At this stage, the AVERio alert will have already been triggered.

4. Finished

If the "Finished" step is reached, this indicates that a fall event successfully completed steps 1-3.

5. Fall Exit
This completes the fall event cycle.

NOTE: AVERio will raise an alert if a person falls and remains on the floor for 50 seconds or more.

NOTE: If a person falls and gets up within approximately 50 seconds, no alert will be raised. Also, if a 2nd person enters the room during this period, an alert will NOT be raised.
